The CATO institute claims that a free economy and free trade is more important than democracy. RJ Rummel writes that
it is not. But does it matter? I'm not so sure. Democracies tend to have a free economy and countries with non-free economy tends to be authoritarian.
Therefore, in reality, there is no choice. We need democracy *and* free economy. Because democracy needs economic freedom like swedish meatballs needs lingonberry jam. In theory, you can have meatballs without lingonberries, but in practice, it just isn't very good.
